However, there are many of us who do not currently have the ability to purchase a home because of closing costs, the down payment, or just don’t have the credit score to get a mortgage. If you fall into any of these categories, there is still hope. During the rent-to-own period, you will be able to put your rent money to work and increase your credit score while living in the home. A portion of the monthly rent is used to build up a down payment which will be used to purchase the home later. To qualify: 1. Savings of 3-5% (minimum $10k) of the home price 2. Total family income of $70k or above 3.
