Description

Reluctantly putting my 1991 Toyota Corolla GT-S up for sale. This is last year of the AE92 GT-S, coming with the high compression, 135 hp Smallport 4A-GE engine (necessitating premium / 91+ octane fuel) paired to a C52 5-speed manual transmission. It’s a very well-balanced driver’s car; it’s lightweight and handles well, making it fun on the back roads. Some highlights are below, but I have many, many more details and pictures I can share, so please me a message if there’s anything specific you’d like to know! Pictures are from last year and car looks basically the same (new wheels only), but I will take some fresh ones soon (or come see it in person). Car is registered and insured in Ontario. I regularly drive it between Brantford and Toronto, and can take serious buyers out for a test drive. Asking $9500, which will include many spare parts (see below), and I could potentially assist the new owner with having the car Safety Standards Certificate done if desired. This is my third car, and as much as I would love to keep it, it’s a lot to maintain three vehicles, and I’ve been neglecting my summer project car to give this beauty some attention. As such, I’m mostly looking for cash, unless someone was interested in trading an 80’s / 90’s mini truck (Mazda B-series, Ford Courier, Toyota Pickup / Tacoma), a reg cab long box Ford F-series (’92 to ’97), or a newer BMW wagon (E46 / E61 / E91). This has quickly become a rare car, not many AE92 coupes left around, especially not a GT-S in this condition! I’m happy to keep it if no one is interested at this price point, and I’ll work on installing the A/C system and putting on the reman brake calipers over the winter and doing some detailing. In the Spring I’ll list it on Bring a Trailer, where it will reach a much wider market and most likely fetch more than what I’m asking for here. These Corolla’s have a special following and a GT-S sold last year (in similar/worse condition) for over $12,000 USD. Interior: 9.5 / 10.0 Exterior: 7.0 / 10.0 Drivetrain: 8.0 / 10.0 Chassis: 8.0 / 10.0 Pros: - Low km Vancouver car (no rust), current mileage is 212,XXX km - I am the third owner, and have done 36,000 km of trouble free driving since Jan 2020 - Timing Belt / Water pump / Cam Seals done @ 183,000 km (Jun 2020) - Transaxle gearbox oil changed to Amsoil 75W-90 GL-4 (Sep 2020). - New iridium spark plugs, serpentine belts, and valve cover gaskets (Oct 2020) - IACV recalibrated to correct high idle on cold start, throttle body gasket replaced, and new Toyota OEM Thermostat and coolant change (Jan 2021) - Full strut rebuild (All new KYB components w/ Eibach Springs), new inner/outer tie rods, ball joints, anti-sway bar links, and alignment (Mar 2021) - Autobahn Ceramic Tint, 20% (Mar 2021) - EBC Brakes front slotted rotors and yellow stuff pads all around plus Raybestos rear rotors; new Raybestos brake hardware all around (Sep 2022) - Includes a brand new set of Yokohama Advan Fleva high performance summer tires on 15” CSA Diplomat rims (installed Aug 2023) and a set of 2-year-old Firestone winter tires on OEM 14” rims (Oct 2021) - Goes into all gears in the gearbox, no 5th gear pop-out issues like some C5X transaxles have. Clutch seems to be good, grabs strong. Clutch was last replaced at 155,000 km according to the CarFax. - Interior is immaculate, no damage, tears, etc.; everything functions like it should (power windows, locks, mirrors, sunroof*, cruise control) - No A/C currently, but I acquired the entire A/C system from another 1991 GT-S and purchased new condenser, evaporator, receiver/dryer, expansion valve, gaskets, etc., from RockAuto. Just needs installed (I have the dealer install manual too)! - Many hard to find spare parts, including: spare front and rear bumpers, short shifter/shift cables, gauge clusters, side mirror assemblies, side skirts, spare distributors, rust-free sunroof panel, and one full used set and one full reman set of brake calipers - No rust! There were small amounts of rust that were addressed correctly. Paint looks pretty good from a few feet away and in pictures; underbody is perfect and has been undercoated at Krown Burlington three times since coming to Ontario (most recently on Oct 8th, 2022) Cons: - Synchros in 2nd gear seem to be worn; no issues if you time your upshifts properly and double-clutch on downshifts into 2nd gear - Burns a small amount of oil (occasional blue smoke seen only at start-up). The engine has very good compression, so could be the valve stem seals. Can continue driving as is, but would be worth rebuilding the head to address - I think one cable is broken on the power sunroof *; still opens and closes, but you need to reset the rear guide on the driver’s side after you close it (easy to do) - Paint has a few little dings and scratches, spider webs in the paint here and there; rust repair done on the driver’s rear wheel well looks okay from a few feet, but the edges didn’t blend
